BlackGround Outdoor signs deal to distribute charging stations in SA

A small Johannesburg-based company, BlackGround Outdoor (Pty) Ltd, has announced that it has signed a major distribution agreement with a Dubai-based company, ChargeUp to be the sole distributor of the ‘world’s most advanced mobile charging stations’ in South Africa.

The mobile charging stations will be placed in public places such as shopping centres, airports, gyms, conference and exhibition venues, hospitals, universities and so on to allow people to “securely” recharge their mobile devices (tablets and phones).

Commenting on the deal, ChargeUp CEO, Hisham Bakir, said, “We are thoroughly pleased that we have found a reliable partner in SA to ensure that our products are extensively distributed in the South African market. For us, it was, not only critical that we find a partner who shared our vision, but also a partner that we could trust, and who understands both the market and the product. We believe that Blackground Outdoor, will maintain the same high level of service that ChargeUp is known for throughout the Middle East.”

BlackGround Outdoor has already purchased, and taken delivery of, several units, and will soon be placing them in public facilities as well as leasing them out to different events across the country. The company will distribute the products under the ChargeUp SA brand to ensure that there is brand consistency and consolidation in the South African market.

BlackGround Outdoor managing director, Mboneni Mulaudzi, said, “In our view, these machines are more than just mobile charging stations. They are interactive multi-advertising platforms that allow brands to communicate their messages through the wrapping or branding of the machine and video displays, while user surveys are also possible. They provide brands the opportunity to communicate with customers while they recharge their mobile devices.”

“We have recently received approval to install the charging stations at OR Tambo International Airport making it the first public amenity that will boast these state of the art advertising platforms in SA,” added Mulaudzi.

In terms of the distributorship agreement, BlackGround Outdoor will distribute the mobile charging stations and provide a 24/7 customer support service, as well as through the available remote online support.

Representatives from BlackGround Outdoor have just returned from Dubai, after having attended an intensive training course, on the use and maintenance of these kiosks in Dubai, where the distribution agreement was signed, between ChargeUp Middle East, and BlackGround Outdoor (ChargeUp SA).
